Aircraft Firefighter

Entry Requirements

• Completion of Firefighter II certification (SAESI or equivalent), which includes Hazmat Awareness and Operations .
• Minimum age: 18 years
• Educational Requirement: Matric (NQF Level 4) or equivalent with two South African languages (one being English).
• Health Requirement: Certified valid medical qualification (e.g., HPCSA Card, Advanced First Responder SAQA US No. 376480, NQF 3).
• Certification Prerequisites: Valid Hazmat Awareness and Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator qualifications.

  • Understanding hazards specific to aviation environments
• Module 3: Fire Suppression Tactics
  • Application of foam, dry chemicals, and water agents
  • Suppression of cabin, engine, and fuel fires
• Module 4: Rescue Operations
  • Extrication techniques for passengers and crew
  • Managing confined spaces and hazardous environments
• Module 5: Incident Management
  • Coordinating with airport authorities and command systems
  • Utilising the Incident Command System (ICS) for aviation responses
• Module 6: Emergency Medical Response
  • Providing first aid and triage for injured passengers
  • Managing mass casualty incidents
• Module 7: Practical Field Exercises
  • Simulating real-world aviation fire and rescue scenarios
  • Performance assessments on firefighting and rescue techniques
