This course is for people inducting new personnel on Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) principles. It includes the duties of the employees and employers concerning OHS in the workplace, the requirements for the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), housekeeping and emergency procedures that apply to the workplace.

CONDUCT WORKPLACE OHS INSPECTIONS

Understanding of the legislation that applies to Occupational Health and Safety, non-compliance, and inspection protocols applicable to the workplace. Learners will carry out physical inspections, record, report and deal with the results to implement corrective and preventative actions.

SHE (SAFETY, HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT) REPRESENTATIVE

BREATHING APPARATUS/BA SET

Ideal for individuals who require a self-contained BA SETs (SCBA) in a work environment. This course is for people to use a self-contained breathing apparatus safely and efficiently during regular occupational assignments and emergency operations. The learner will possess the fundamental knowledge and skills to prevent compromised respiratory protection and to exit hazardous areas before air depletion.

Explain the physiology of respiration.
Explain the nature and characteristics of typical hazardous atmospheres.
Explain the limitations of a self-contained breathing apparatus.
Describe the components of a self-contained breathing apparatus and their functions.
Inspect and maintain a self-contained breathing apparatus in a state of readiness.
Work in an area of obscured visibility while wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus.

CONFINED SPACE ENTRY

Confined space refers to an area with a hazardous atmosphere, limited means for entry and exit, and extended occupancy is dangerous. Confined spaces include underground vaults, tanks, utility holes, pits, silos, process vessels, and pipelines. This course is ideal for rescue personnel expected to undertake emergency rescues as part of their duties to enter confined spaces. Individuals conduct rescue operations in confined spaces by applying safe working practices and first-aid principles to rescue victims from confined spaces.

Demonstrate knowledge of safe working practices in confined spaces.
Select and operate equipment for rescues from confined spaces.
Carry out a rescue in a confined space.
Conduct briefings and compile reports.

BASIC FIREFIGHTING/FIRE SAFETY IN BUILDINGS

This course is designed to upskill organisations in fire prevention, protection and suppression. It incorporates practical sessions and simulations to identify, contain, prevent and extinguish different types of fires by operating basic firefighting equipment.

FIRE AWARENESS WORKSHOP

This workshop is a shortened Basic Firefighting course. It is designed to equip employees to improve their levels of fire safety and awareness in the workplace.

COURSE OUTLINE

Aligned to unit standards – 117079 | 117082

Identify unsafe acts and conditions and explain standard safety rules applied to overcome dangerous fire situations.
Demonstrate safety procedures in wildfire suppression situations.
Detect and explain basic characteristics of fire behaviour to enable safe and efficient fire suppression.
Extinguish wildfires using manual methods and procedures.
Verbal and hand signalled communication and instructions.
Use of water hose equipment.
Conduct mop-up procedures.
