Learners’ who are assessed as competent against this unit standard will be able to prepare, prime and paint new surfaces in accordance with the requirements specified in working drawings for houses of a basic design ensuring that the applicable National Building standards, health and safety regulations and prescribed time frames are adhered to.

Course Curriculum

Identify type of surface

  • Surface is accurately identified.
  • Surface characteristics are accurately described.

 

Faulty surfaces are identified and rejected

  • Prepare new surfaces.
  • Imperfections are cleaned out.
  • Bare areas are sanded down.

 

Raw areas of plaster are etched

  • All surfaces are dusted down, or washed and left to dry where appropriate, after they have been prepared.
  • Appropriate materials, tools and equipment are selected and correctly used.
  • Windows are kept closed when a floor is painted.
